About Joey

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and graduated from the University of Alberta in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (with distinction). In 2019, I was accepted into the Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy program at the U of A.

Throughout high school I played competitive soccer, and it was here that I was exposed to the field of physical therapy through recurrent knee and ankle injuries. While I continued to play recreational soccer throughout my years of university, it was in my fourth year that I began weight training. This has since become a passion of mine, and further drove my interest in exercise, rehabilitation, and performance.

My treatment style reflects this passion by combining exercise with education and manual therapy to achieve optimal outcomes in rehabilitation and injury prevention. I aim to help my patients go beyond their baseline and improve their performance in the activities that are important to them. I enjoy working as a team with my patients, taking a collaborative approach and encouraging an active role in the rehabilitation journey.

Outside of the clinic, you can find me hitting the weights at the gym, hiking up or snowboarding down a mountain, climbing at the bouldering gym, or hanging out with friends!

About Kat

I was born and raised in Sherwood Park, AB where I grew up playing soccer competitively. During my time as a competitive soccer player, I went through 3 major knee injuries where the Bridge quickly became my second home. During all the hours spent at the clinic I realized I wanted to be a part of this community long-term and help individuals get back to what they love.

I quickly grew to appreciate and love the collaborative environment and community centred space at the clinic which ultimately helped shape my idea of what kind of practitioner I wanted to be.

Knowing this, I attended the University of Lethbridge for a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. While attending the UofL, I played on the Pronghorns soccer team for 3 years and then after retiring took on a coaching position for a year before returning home.

From patient to staff member, I worked at the Bridge for 4 years as both a physiotherapist aide and a receptionist. Now as a Strength & Conditioning Coach I am able to utilize my experience to help educate young athletes about injury prevention and demonstrate how using a proactive approach to our health creates long-term benefits.

My passion for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and strength and conditioning, is clearly demonstrated while connecting with my clients regardless of their ages, abilities, or background in physical activity.

My philosophy of continuing education allows me to further my knowledge in order to provide the best care for my clients.

When I’m not in the clinic you can find me hiking, hitting up a new local business or brewing a fresh cup of coffee.

About Jared

Being passionate about strength training and injury prevention lead me to graduate from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. I spent my degree focusing on injury management, strength, and conditioning, as well as anatomy and biomechanics to further deepen my understanding of the human body. During my undergrad, I was able to spend time with The Bridge family; learning their model for injury management and return to sport. Currently, I am continuing my education by studying to become a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the NSCA.

Growing up in Sherwood Park I was always involved in community sports. Most of my childhood was spent playing soccer, eventually being able to play tier 1 for 5 years with Southwest United and finishing second in provincials. In university, my focus shifted to clinical performance as I participated in concussion testing as well as a VO2max and respiratory performance study.

My desire to help others achieve their goals and improve their quality of life is what motivates me to excel at what I do. Whether it be fixing a muscle imbalance, improving biomechanics, or simply improving athletic ability, my aim is to help everyone reach their potential. .

About Trevor

My journey to becoming a physical therapist began at the University of Lethbridge where I obtained a baccalaureate degree in Exercise Science. Shortly afterwards I went on to obtain my Certified Exercise Physiologist certificate from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.

This certificate allowed me to work with various populations including athletes and non-athletes to provide exercise testing, programming, and lifestyle education.

For several years I worked with individuals afflicted by a variety of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and age-related conditions. During this time, I was also fortunate enough to gain experience working with both able-bodied and parasport athletes.

My curiosity and drive for further education led me to pursue a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. My research explored the effects of aerobic exercise testing on the provocation and cessation of symptoms in individuals who had sustained a sport-related concussion.

I was also heavily involved in exercise testing and programming for many studies conducted through the Sport Injury Research Prevention Centre. The pursuit of a graduate degree allowed me to witness the incredible effects that a physiotherapist can have on individuals dealing with sport-related injuries. After graduating from the University of Calgary, I gained acceptance into the Physical Therapy program at the University of Alberta.

I grew up playing various sports and have sustained my fair share of injuries throughout. I can understand firsthand the impact that injuries can have on a person’s well-being and livelihood. I am a strong believer that exercise is medicine, and that it can be used to empower individuals recovering from injury and those looking to optimize their performance.

Whatever your health and fitness goals may be, I look forward to helping you work towards them using a collaborative, and patient-centred approach. When I am not in the clinic you can find me bouldering, golfing and practicing hot yoga.

About Tyler

Pursuing a passion for all things sport and movement took me to the University of Alberta where I graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Sports Performance. Throughout my degree, I took a keen interest in injury management and injury prevention, leading me to a career where I can help people recover from injuries and return to activities at the same or higher level than before.

I spent the last year of my degree working as the student kinesiologist with the University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team, and I’ve been lucky to have coached a variety of different levels in hockey from youth up to junior levels.

Growing up, I played a variety of different sports. My athletics mainly focused on baseball and hockey since I was 5, but I took up football in high school and recently have been focusing on golf and my general fitness goals. Although I am not competing at a high level anymore, I still enjoy getting out and being active, which I hope to share with others around me.

About Doug

I opened Sherwood Park Sports Physiotherapy in 1985 with a vision to have a multidisciplinary Sports Medicine Centre to treat athletic injuries in Sherwood Park. In 2000, the vision grew as the clinic moved to Millennium Place and expanded to include a full team of rehab and fitness specialists. In 2015, we took a further step by opening The Bridge, a centre that not only provides treatments but also full movement and return to sport training. Most recently we are proud to add The Bridge South Edmonton in collaboration with Spark Sport Conditioning.

I believe our success has been rooted in our desire to think differently. To challenge the norm and always push to bring the best professionals and treatment methods to our clients.

We believe everyone deserves to live their best healthy lives and we do whatever is necessary to help people back to the sports and activities they love.

About Michael

As a born and raised Albertan, I have spent considerable time living in both Edmonton and Calgary completing a Bachelor of Biological Science in 2013 and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2019 at the University of Alberta. I also spent 2014 and 2015 studying Kinesiology at the University of Calgary.

Since the summer of 1999 I have trained and competed in ITF style Taekwondo. After earning my blackbelt at the age of 16, I spent a number of years teaching Taekwondo to people of all ages and abilities. I was fortunate to be selected for the U-21 men’s team representing Canada at the 2007 ITF World Taekwondo Championships in Birmingham, England where we took home silver in sparring and bronze in board breaking. The best part of martial arts to me is the always-present goal of attaining your next belt while at the same time noticing yourself become stronger in all aspects of your life.

Throughout the years of playing competitive football, from peewee to the highschool/midget level, and training in Taekwondo, I had endured a number of sports related injuries that were rehabbed successfully thanks to Physiotherapy. My personal experience with the profession drove me to pursue a career in Physiotherapy and the rest as they say, is history.

About Kevin

I graduated from the University of Alberta’s Physiotherapy program in 2001 after completing a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to working for The Bridge, I have lived and worked for clinics in New York City and Toronto. I completed my Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2010.

In addition to working in the clinic, teaching manual therapy and exercise courses to other physiotherapists is a passion of mine. I am an instructor with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Assocation, and with New York-based Hands On Seminars. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to teach therapists in Canada, the U.S, South Africa, Turkey and India.

For me the keys to successful injury and pain recovery are integrating the appropriate manual therapy techniques with appropriate strengthening, movement and education. Finding the movement or muscle imbalance issues are critical to achieving lasting pain free function.

During my non-work time I enjoy being with my young family, traveling and staying active with strength training, running, soccer and volleyball. I’m still holding on to the dream of another Oilers Stanley Cup Championship in my lifetime.

Born and raised in Sherwood Park, I was heavily involved in competitive soccer. Throughout my soccer career, I sustained several injuries which introduced me to the world of sport science and rehabilitation.

I graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree in 2016. After graduating I worked as a kinesiologist, learning from and working closely with chiropractors and it was through that mentorship that my passion for chiropractic began.

I attended the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon graduating summa cum laude in 2020 with both my Doctor of Chiropractic degree as well as a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology degree. During my time at UWS, I learned a variety of treatment technique including chiropractic manipulation/mobilization, soft tissue mobilization and exercise prescription.

Since graduating, I have expanded my knowledge and treatment techniques through continuing education courses such as Active Release Technique (ART), instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), cupping and various RockTape courses. I consider myself a life-long learner and am eager to advance and improve my knowledge and skills to maintain a practice that is patient centred and evidence based.
